Whole 30 Day 20

How I’m Feeling

TEN. DAYS. LEFT. Not that I’m excited to be done or anything but I am starting to reach the point where I’m a bit over the whole thing. I’m so close to being done – but not quite there. My energy levels continue to be great. My digestion is better than ever. I’m learning day by day that more and more of my favourite things have non-compliant ingredients in them and I have had the inner strength to say “no thank you” even if I really want it. Thankfully, the people in my life have been nothing but supportive and when I have been over at other people’s houses, they have had compliant options for me for meals and have been open to me bringing my own oil and salad dressing options. I am so grateful ❤️

What I Ate

Breakfast: I had two eggs (surprise) with turkey breast.

Lunch: salad with roast chicken, a hard boiled egg (cut up on the salad), and some olives. I used my dump ranch as the dressing.

Dinner: Roast beef with roasted potatoes and sweet potatoes, carrots, onions, and green beans. Dessert was a fruit salad.

I’m currently packing my lunch for tomorrow. I made some cauliflower rice for the week and have chicken (made with coconut milk) in the fridge to use up. I forgot I didn’t have any veggies prepped so I am making some Brussel sprouts in the oven using roughly this recipe. Whole 30 Changes: I used Whole 30 compliant bacon and dump ranch and did not add parmesan cheese. I’ll let you know tomorrow how it turns out!

Whole 30 Day 19

How I’m Feeling

Day 19 – We’re getting closer to the end … but not quite. All the tempting bad foods are all around but I feel pretty in control of what I’m eating and am very mindful of ingredients. It was also a day of eating out today so I have had to be on the ball more than usual. I have had a pasta craving all day but I am keeping it under control. No sugar cravings but I did eat quite a bit of fruit at breakfast.

What I Ate

Breakfast: Mini fruit salad – should’ve had more protein with it but I had a late breakfast and was hyper-involved with binge watching The Crown on Netflix.

Lunch: For lunch we had mediterranean food. I had a grilled chicken skewer with two salads since I didn’t get rice as a side. One salad was a beet salad which was absolutely delicious. The other was a mixed vegetable salad with an oil and vinegar dressing. Was a bit sad that I had to say no to the spicy garlic sauce (in case it had dairy in it) but my friends were very supportive in finding a place that had alternatives for me as well.

Dinner: I am currently writing this while on the way to get dinner. We’re going to a restaurant that I ate at on my last round of Whole 30. They have these almond crusted chicken tenders which are paleo friendly. Will likely get a side salad, dressing on the side and say no thank you to the dips for the chicken tenders (better to be safe than sorry).

Whole 30 Day 11

How I’m Feeling

Holy moly Day 11 already. I’m feeling great!

I feel energized and awake and full of life. My moods have regulated as well.

What I Ate

Breakfast: the last of the egg muffins that I didn’t freeze

Lunch: white chicken chilli that I made last night

Dinner: roast chicken and cauliflower and broccoli

Short and sweet for today!

Whole 30 Day 8

How I Feel

Well, Day 8, here we are and man, do I feel bloated. According to the Whole 30 Timeline:

Maybe I don’t feel quite as dramatically bloated as the timeline states, but I definitely feel more bloated. I’m just gonna come out here and say it but I am not experiencing constipation or diarrhea (thank goodness) but my bowel movements have been quite regular and normal – better than before. I’m hoping this bloating phase ends soon, however.

On the bright side, I am starting to get a bit more energy. I did not hit my typical 2pm slump. Sure, I wanted a coffee around 1:30 but more for the taste than the tired sensation.

What I Ate

Breakfast: Well, I definitely didn’t leave myself as much time as I would have liked this morning to get ready so thank goodness for the egg muffins I made. I brought two with me on the way to work and they were perfect. Just what I needed!

Lunch: Leftover creamy broccoli-kale soup and a paleo chicken thigh

Snacks: Two tangerines – the citrus binge continues

Dinner: A (thankfully) compliant Filipino dish. I don’t remember the name of it but it’s some sort of leafy green made with coconut milk, shrimp, and pork. It’s one of my favourites despite me not being able to name what it is. I also had a leftover chicken thigh and shrimp as my protein.

Yoga & Well-being

I officially started my 30 days of yoga last night and my leg muscles are quite sore today! I also have been diffusing essential oils before bed which has helped me sleep through the night. I am continuing with the Five Minute Journal and trying my best to keep my moods elevated.

Whole 30 Day 7

How I’m Feeling

I’m less tired than yesterday. My moods have dropped a bit but there are several possible factors for this:
1. Terrible snowy start to the day. The drive was slick and slow and did not set the tone for the day in a positive manner.
2. It was the first “full” day back to work. I love my job, but Mondays get even the best of us.
3. My anxiety has been a bit higher than usual. While I have managed to keep it under control, it has impacted my overall mood.

I have been craving weird things today: citrus fruits (so naturally I bought a pack of them) and seafood.

What I Ate Today

Breakfast: I did not have eggs for breakfast today! I had a “cereal” made up of fruit and slivered almonds with almond milk.

Snack: An apple, sliced.

Lunch: Leftover fajita chicken and shrimp! Deelish.

Dinner: To satisfy my seafood craving, I made a seafood medley (salmon and shrimp) in coconut oil with garlic. As a side, I made butternut squash noodles with spinach and mushrooms from Tasting Page.

For breakfast for the week, I made some Breakfast Egg Muffins! I can’t wait to freeze them and eat them this week so I don’t have to stress about what I’m going to eat as I run out the door. Mine have prosciutto, baby spinach, onion, mushroom, and garlic in it.

Whole 30 Day 6

How I’m Feeling

Almost a week into Whole 30 and I’m hanging in there. Fitting into the Whole 30 Timeline I have felt incredibly lethargic and tired today despite getting nearly 10 hours of sleep last night. IMG_1391

I haven’t had any crazy cravings today and have been excited to try new recipes for the week.

What I Ate Today

Breakfast: Classic breakfast of two eggs and fruit

Lunch: I had the last bowl of leftover Whole 30 Chilli

Dinner: I made the Creamy Broccoli-Kale Soup from the Whole 30 Fast and Easy cookbook as well as some Paleo pan fried chicken thighs for protein. The chicken thighs are currently cooking so I don’t have a picture of them but here’s the recipe I used from Oh Snap! Let’s Eat!

Tonight’s Snack: Apples with cinnamon and almond butter

Maybe an early bedtime tonight after a warm bath bomb bath. 🙂

Whole 30 Day 5

How I’m Feeling

Day 5 is here. When I woke up, I was feeling great. I was on top of the world. I felt okay about the Whole 30 thing. And then it hit me. The feelings I didn’t feel yesterday. I would be fine and then rage uncontrollably about nothing. Or break down into tears about nothing. And the cravings are real today. I want chocolate so badly – it has been all I have been thinking about: I have a container of hot chocolate I want to try, a box of chocolates from Christmas stored away. The picture above is pretty accurate. A cookie would be really freakin’ great right now.

I have a lot of energy and none seemingly at the same time. It comes in waves. I am continuing to stay positive and hydrated as much as possible.

What I Ate

Breakfast: Very unoriginal of me I had two eggs and some fruit.

Lunch: I had the leftover shrimp curry I made with some cauliflower rice.

Dinner: My boyfriend is supporting me during this Whole 30 journey and thought it would be a good idea to try recipes from my Whole 30 Fast and Easy Cookbook.

We made Sheet Pan Shrimp with Sesame Broccoli (p.132 ) and the Fajita Chicken from p. 136.

Both were delicious and easy to make. For the fajita chicken recipe, we did not make it with peppers and shrimp since we were using the shrimp for the other recipe. We used mushrooms and zucchini instead for the stir fry. There’s enough left over for lunch tomorrow and helped satisfy my hunger so I’m not thinking of chocolate and cookies.

Whole 30 Day 1

As New Years comes to a close, I must also say goodbye to some of the things I love the most: wine and cheese.

Why am I doing Whole 30? (In no particular order)

  1. With stress eating and the holidays, I have not only gained weight, but I have created and re-created some bad habits with food. I want to create new habits and break (and more importantly identify) old habits.
  2. To boost my confidence – the amount of self control it takes to cut out grains, dairy, soy, sugar, legumes, and alcohol is immense! To know after the 30 days that I have been able to control what I eat and eat clean will make me feel amazing.
  3. To break the emotional connection with food. I don’t want to grab a bag of chips because I’m overwhelmed by all of the things on my to-do list. Or drink that glass of wine.
  4. To learn to cook a variety of clean eating recipes
  5. To improve my body image.

What I Ate Today:

Breakfast: Diced potatoes with onions, garlic, and eggs.

Lunch: Cucumbers dipped in guacamole (I didn’t have time to meal prep yesterday – oops).

Dinner: Baked tilapia with red pepper relish (see below) with a side salad – loosely based on the Whole 30 Recipe in the Whole 30 Book (p. 242)

How I’m Feeling:

  • I craved chocolate today. And chips. I resisted.
  • I have been so thirsty despite the large amount of water I’ve drank today
  • Proud of myself for preparing lunch for the week! (Whole 30 chilli)
  • I have a bit of a headache currently but I am diffusing some essential oils and ready to tackle the next thing on my to-do list.
