Whole 30 Day 18

How I’m Feeling

I felt so much better today than yesterday. I was far less irritable and felt happy and focused all day. Tiger blood is in full force.

What I Ate

For breakfast, I had some eggs with an avocado.

Lunch: leftover gumbo and cucumber slices with dump ranch.

Dinner: I had dinner at my best friend’s house where the meal was mostly compliant (I didn’t have any of the quinoa or bread). Steak, baked potatoes, roasted veggies, and sautéed mushrooms with a side salad was more than enough.

My friend is also choosing not to drink alcohol in January so we had a splash of pomegranate juice in wine glasses.

NSV: my pants fit looser and the shirt I wore had not fit in a long time! Woohoo!

Short and sweet post today!

How I’m Feeling

I felt like I was on fire yesterday (in a good way). Today, I’m very irritable – I am unsure why. I have a lot of energy and am feeling very alert but I am very on edge. Could have more to do with anxiety than my diet but nevertheless, here we are.

I’m somehow not bored of what I’m eating and get excited looking up new recipes to try.

What I Ate

Breakfast: Fruit with eggs

Lunch: The last of the shepherd’s pie

Dinner: A Filipino dish my mom made which was thankfully compliant. It wasn’t very pretty to look at so I didn’t take a picture but it had onions, okra, tomatoes, garlic, and beef.

Snack: apples with cinnamon and cashews (I ate less than was on the plate)

Whole 30 Day 16

How I’m Feeling
Do you smell that? Tiger blood. Here we are! We made it, friends.

What is Tiger Blood?
According to the new Whole 30 timeline, tiger blood typically occurs between days 16 and 27 and is described below from the official Whole 30 website.

My motivation for working out is lacking, especially with it being so cold outside but today, I am determined to at least make it onto the yoga mat!

What I Ate

Today’s breakfast was a little sad – I made avocado egg things (vague terms, I know) where you scoop out the inside and then crack an egg in the middle and bake but my avocado was too small so it was just yolk inside. I took a picture and it looks pretty (obviously just for instagram purposes) but I mainly ate apples with cinnamon and a hard boiled egg on my drive to work.

For lunch, I had leftover gumbo but I wasn’t too hungry.

For dinner tonight, I will be having lettuce wraps with the leftover chicken breast I have in my fridge as I attempt to cross a few more things off my to-do list.

Whole 30 Days 14 & 15

Hopefully I’ll start to get back on task with writing every day. Yesterday, however, was my 25th birthday so I took a little break from the blog but I am back!

How I’m Feeling

I’m halfway done!! While not having cake or sweet things on my birthday was hard, the idea of turning 25 was much harder. To anyone reading this who is older than 25, you’re probably snickering thinking, “kid, you ain’t seen nothing yet,” but for me, I feel like life is picking up and adulthood is inevitable. I am living in it.

Physiologically, I continue to feel alert and full of energy throughout my day. My moods are generally better with a bit of typical fluctuations. I am noticing a bit of a difference in my face and my waist (yay!). Clothes are fitting better. And my digestion is amazing! No stomach problems at all – a huge improvement since before Whole 30.

What I Ate

Yesterday, I had a smoothie for breakfast (it was my birthday, that was my sweet treat). I had shepherd’s pie for lunch, and my sister made me a Whole 30 compliant dinner with a seasoned chicken breast, sweet potato fries, and a salad with compliant homemade dressing. I had a plate of apple slices topped with cinnamon as my “birthday cake.”

Today for breakfast I had a Lara bar since I had an 8am meeting this morning and had an apple after my meeting was done. I had shepherd’s pie for lunch and the gumbo I made on the weekend for dinner. It tastes amazing! I am so happy with that recipe.

I can feel the tiger blood coming!!

Whole 30 Day 11

How I’m Feeling

Holy moly Day 11 already. I’m feeling great!

I feel energized and awake and full of life. My moods have regulated as well.

What I Ate

Breakfast: the last of the egg muffins that I didn’t freeze

Lunch: white chicken chilli that I made last night

Dinner: roast chicken and cauliflower and broccoli

Whole 30 Day 10

How I’m Feeling

They say Days 10 and 11 are the hardest days. I don’t think today has been too hard and unbearable. However, walking into Tim Horton’s today to meet up with a friend made me realize I literally could not have anything except for the coffee and only some of the teas. I was surrounded by doughnuts, bagels, and non-compliant menu items.  I just wanted a doughnut.

Otherwise, I have had higher than normal energy levels all day. I felt and looked less bloated than I have been the last couple of days. And I’m really starting to take the time to think about what exactly is in my food and the psychological connections I have to food. In the past few days, when I’ve been feeling down, I haven’t turned to chocolate or a bag of chips. I’ve been drinking a lot of water. I’ve been eating more fruits and vegetables than before. I feel content and satisfied after each meal.

Do I miss pizza and chicken wings and chinese food? Absolutely. But I am hoping to be more cautious after Whole 30 about what I eat, how much I eat, and why I am eating.

What I Ate Today

I have been cleaning out the last bit of leftovers out of my fridge today but I did make something new tonight!

Breakfast: Egg muffins and fruit with some tea.

Lunch: The last of the broccoli-kale soup

Snacks: Fruit and nuts

Dinner: White chicken chilli made from this recipe. I made the stovetop version as I made the slow cooker version once (wrong, might I add) and I didn’t like it. However, this time I followed the recipe correctly and it tasted really good.

I also made Whole 30 dump ranch tonight and I am HOOKED. I think I like it better than normal ranch dressing. I was surprised at how good it tastes. I used fresh dill as my fresh herb of choice. The recipe for the ranch can be found here.IMG_1434.JPG

 

Whole 30 Day 9

Today’s post will be short and sweet as I tackle all of the leftovers in my fridge.

How I’m Feeling

I miss cheese. I miss pizza. But I’m not craving these things. Does that make sense?

I am still feeling quite bloated and I don’t have much of an appetite. My energy levels are better but the weather is making me want to curl under a blanket for a little while.

I am currently laying under a blanket catching up on This is Us. My anxiety levels are higher than what I would call “normal” but not by much. I have a growing to-do list, which I think I have done a good job tackling it, but I just needed a moment to relax and have some me time.

What I Ate

Breakfast: Egg muffins saved the day

Lunch: Leftover soup and chicken (same as yesterday)

Snack: An orange, some walnuts, and a banana

Dinner: Leftover shrimp and some butternut squash noodles

 

Days 10 and 11 are expected to be the worst. If that’s the case, let’s do this.

Whole 30 Day 8

How I Feel

Well, Day 8, here we are and man, do I feel bloated. According to the Whole 30 Timeline:

Maybe I don’t feel quite as dramatically bloated as the timeline states, but I definitely feel more bloated. I’m just gonna come out here and say it but I am not experiencing constipation or diarrhea (thank goodness) but my bowel movements have been quite regular and normal – better than before. I’m hoping this bloating phase ends soon, however.

On the bright side, I am starting to get a bit more energy. I did not hit my typical 2pm slump. Sure, I wanted a coffee around 1:30 but more for the taste than the tired sensation.

What I Ate

Breakfast: Well, I definitely didn’t leave myself as much time as I would have liked this morning to get ready so thank goodness for the egg muffins I made. I brought two with me on the way to work and they were perfect. Just what I needed!

Lunch: Leftover creamy broccoli-kale soup and a paleo chicken thigh

Snacks: Two tangerines – the citrus binge continues

Dinner: A (thankfully) compliant Filipino dish. I don’t remember the name of it but it’s some sort of leafy green made with coconut milk, shrimp, and pork. It’s one of my favourites despite me not being able to name what it is. I also had a leftover chicken thigh and shrimp as my protein.

Yoga & Well-being

I officially started my 30 days of yoga last night and my leg muscles are quite sore today! I also have been diffusing essential oils before bed which has helped me sleep through the night. I am continuing with the Five Minute Journal and trying my best to keep my moods elevated.

How I’m Feeling

I’m less tired than yesterday. My moods have dropped a bit but there are several possible factors for this:
1. Terrible snowy start to the day. The drive was slick and slow and did not set the tone for the day in a positive manner.
2. It was the first “full” day back to work. I love my job, but Mondays get even the best of us.
3. My anxiety has been a bit higher than usual. While I have managed to keep it under control, it has impacted my overall mood.

I have been craving weird things today: citrus fruits (so naturally I bought a pack of them) and seafood.

What I Ate Today

Breakfast: I did not have eggs for breakfast today! I had a “cereal” made up of fruit and slivered almonds with almond milk.

Snack: An apple, sliced.

Lunch: Leftover fajita chicken and shrimp! Deelish.

Dinner: To satisfy my seafood craving, I made a seafood medley (salmon and shrimp) in coconut oil with garlic. As a side, I made butternut squash noodles with spinach and mushrooms from Tasting Page.

For breakfast for the week, I made some Breakfast Egg Muffins! I can’t wait to freeze them and eat them this week so I don’t have to stress about what I’m going to eat as I run out the door. Mine have prosciutto, baby spinach, onion, mushroom, and garlic in it.

Whole 30 Day 6

How I’m Feeling

Almost a week into Whole 30 and I’m hanging in there. Fitting into the Whole 30 Timeline I have felt incredibly lethargic and tired today despite getting nearly 10 hours of sleep last night. IMG_1391

I haven’t had any crazy cravings today and have been excited to try new recipes for the week.

What I Ate Today

Breakfast: Classic breakfast of two eggs and fruit

Lunch: I had the last bowl of leftover Whole 30 Chilli

Dinner: I made the Creamy Broccoli-Kale Soup from the Whole 30 Fast and Easy cookbook as well as some Paleo pan fried chicken thighs for protein. The chicken thighs are currently cooking so I don’t have a picture of them but here’s the recipe I used from Oh Snap! Let’s Eat!

Maybe an early bedtime tonight after a warm bath bomb bath. 🙂
