I started on my mindfulness journey a few months ago. While I am no where near to being a pro meditator, I would love to share with you an app and a podcast which have helped shape my meditation practices for the better.
A few months ago, I was having a lot of difficulty falling asleep. While I had tried things like taking melatonin, listening to white noise, and other apps, upon a search in the Apple app store, I found the 10% Happier app.
While there are some meditations you have to pay for, I take full advantage of the free content. The “Falling Asleep” meditation by Alexis Santos reliably helps me fall asleep if I’m ever having troubles sleeping. It is only 10 minutes long but I don’t think I have ever listened to the entire thing.
There are other great meditations for various situations: working with anxiety, anxious moments, morning meditations, bringing awareness to the body, and even driving. Even the one minute meditations make me feel calmer, brings my heart rate down, and makes me feel even that little bit happier.
For work, I do quite a bit of commuting and traffic makes me anxious and listening to the same songs on the radio can be frustrating. I have been a fan of podcasts so when I discovered that 10% Happier had a podcast, I was so excited. I have listened to quite a few of them – featuring meditation teachers, and celebrities who practice meditation. I was quite surprised to hear about the various celebrities who practice meditation or who also have their own share of anxiety troubles. It is easy to forget sometimes that celebrities are humans too.
When it comes to meditation for beginners, the app and the podcast for 10% Happier are great places to start your meditation journey. I have felt happier, more in control, more mindful, and calmer in my day to day life.
